Immediate Matters Party – Klima Biennale Wien

17.–18.

Let us set aside eco-anxiety and gather in joyful resistance against one of the charms of capitalism: the illusion that there is no alternative. Immediate Matters – Speak We Must We Must Speak, a collective project with ten exhibitions from ten independent art spaces in Vienna, reaches its peak on Friday, April 17, in a joint celebration with performances, talks, and music. In a time when neoliberal language serves to extract, separate, and flatten relationships, collective discussion and singing, the articulation of uncomfortable truths, and listening to stories of another way of living together – at least temporarily – become countermeasures against the violence of words and worlds and inspirations for future struggles.

Artist Biographies

Stefanie Sourial works as a performance artist and teaches at the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna. Her performance works are anti-racist, queer, and connect historical and political narratives. Sourial became world-famous for the roles assigned to her: "a dog", "a wall", "a melting ice cube", or "a crumpled aluminum foil".

İpek Hamzaoğlu is an artist, filmmaker, cultural mediator, and freelance camerawoman and editor. In her work, she primarily deals with collective melancholy, future narratives, collective knowledge, and gossip.

Rent is the project of the Vienna-based artist Katrin Euller. The focus is on the process of sound creation itself. Sounds collide, break, glitch, and reassemble. Dense, dark spaces emerge – simultaneously physical and disorienting. Katrin Euller is also active in various collaborations and is a member of EAERES and EXIT VOID.

Mursal is primarily active in the field of sound art and employs various practices and approaches, including performance art, drumming, music production, DJing, and poetry.

As SOÑXSEED, the artist Soñ Gweha uses analog DJing to explore Black, queer, and visionary mythologies as well as spaces of emancipation. Through engagement with various imaginaries, diverse forms of expression, and collective practices in the context of transformative justice, Soñ's artistic practice strives for liberation from societal norms and for harmony between humans and non-humans, as well as between the living and the invisible.
