SONIC GROUNDS ist ein experimentelles Musikformat, das ortsspezifische Konzerte, Performances und offene Studios miteinander verbindet. Jede Edition entsteht im Dialog mit der besonderen Architektur des Funkhauses – Musik nicht als fertiges Produkt, sondern als offener Prozess. NeverAtHome bringt dabei bewusst Inhouse Artists mit lokalen und internationalen Musiker:innen zusammen.
Julian Bazzanella — BREATH please BREATH
Die zweite Edition eröffnet mit einem Solo von Pianist und Komponist Julian Bazzanella. Sein Projekt BREATH please BREATH bewegt sich zwischen Indiefolk und minimalistischer Klassik – fragil, direkt und stark von Improvisation geprägt. „Nur wer Angst hat, kann auch mutig sein."
Dora Donata Sammer — From Imitation to Illusion
Anschließend tritt Blockflötistin Dora Donata Sammer auf, Trägerin des Berlin Prize for Young Artists. In From Imitation to Illusion verschiebt sie bewusst die Erwartungen an ihr Instrument – historische Aufführungspraxis trifft zeitgenössische Musik, und am Ende fragt man sich wirklich, ob man gerade eine Blockflöte gehört hat.
Analog Visuals Vienna
Beide Performances werden von Analog Visuals Vienna (Denny Voch & Viktoria Sigl) begleitet. Ihre Bilder entstehen vollständig analog am Overheadprojektor – Flüssigkeiten, Farben, Materialien – und treten in Echtzeit mit der Musik in Dialog.
Ab 17:30 öffnen die Studios von NeverAtHome ihre Türen für geführte Rundgänge. Einfach vorbeikommen.

SONIC GROUNDS is an experimental music format combining site-specific concerts, performances, and open studios. Each edition is shaped by the particular architecture of the Funkhaus — music as a lived process rather than a finished product. NeverAtHome brings together its in-house artists with local and international musicians to create something that couldn't happen anywhere else.
Julian Bazzanella — BREATH please BREATH
The second edition opens with a solo performance by pianist and composer Julian Bazzanella. His project BREATH please BREATH builds intimate soundscapes somewhere between indie folk and minimalist classical music — fragile, immediate, and rooted in improvisation. "Only those who are afraid can also be brave."
Dora Donata Sammer — From Imitation to Illusion
Next up: Dora Donata Sammer, recorder player and Berlin Prize for Young Artists laureate. In From Imitation to Illusion, she quietly dismantles everything you thought you knew about her instrument — drawing on historical performance practice and contemporary music until you genuinely wonder whether you've been listening to a recorder at all.
Analog Visuals Vienna
Both performances are accompanied live by Analog Visuals Vienna (Denny Voch & Viktoria Sigl) — working entirely with overhead projectors, liquids, pigments, and materials. Shifting images, shadows, and moiré effects in real time.
From 17:30, the NeverAtHome artist studios are open for guided tours. Come early, have a look around.
